The Finance Course covers some of the following topics: workplace safety procedures, business mathematics, consumer accounts, credit cards, credit scores and reports, consumer loans, and budgeting.
The Banking Course subjects are: operation of a ten-key pad, banking policies and procedures, products and services offered by banking institutions, checks and deposits.
Financial Management Course focuses on: Tax preparation, filling status, federal state and local tax laws, bonds, stocks, and investments.
The Agriculture and Natural Resource classes that are offered at Abraham Lincoln High School are within the Ornamental Horticulture Pathway. Each student will take two semesters of Ornamental Horticulture and two semesters of Greenhouse and Horticulture Practices. These classes will also give students A-G credit. The job opportunities after taking these classes are within any field of agriculture but specifically jobs within plant nurseries, greenhouse management, and landscaping careers. While students are in these classes, they will also be maintaining our class garden which will give students hands on skills within the industry.
Ornamental Horticulture A/B
Ornamental Horticulture is our Concentrator class and will provide the student with the necessary entry level techniques for a career in ornamental horticulture and the nursery industry. Topics covered include the anatomy and physiology of plants and the requirements for plant growth. Other topics include plant growth needs, botanical classification, plant physiology, plant reproduction, plant diseases and pests, management practices, selection and care of plants. Other coursework study includes units on plant identification, tool identification, plant propagation, fertilizers, herbicide and pesticide use, irrigation, and landscape design.
Greenhouse and Horticulture Practices A/B
Greenhouse Horticulture Practices is designed as our Capstone class in Ornamental Horticulture. Students learn and apply skills in both operating and maintaining environments for correct plant growth. Labs and activities will have an emphasis on different growing mediums, greenhouses, weed control, plant environments, soil mediums, plant growth, plant propagation, planting mediums, plant biology, plus transplanting and merchandising of ornamental plants. In addition, the students will be exposed to floral design, and the safe use of nursery materials, supplies and equipment. Learners will also gain experience through leadership development, lab projects, and career exploration in agriculture.
The Theater and Stage Pathway offers opportunities for students to learn about and participate in all aspects of theatrical production from acting and play writing, to scenic design and lighting. Students will engage in theoretical practice, as well has hands on projects like school-wide theatrical productions.
The emphasis in introduction to theater is artistic perception and creative expression. Students will be trained in the fundamental skills of the theatre arts, including improvisation techniques, body control, voice, diction, pantomime, learning of lines, creation of character, projection of ideas and emotions, and preparation and acting of scenes from plays. Acting projects will provide positive group experiences in collaborative assignments, developing self-discipline, evaluating the performances of others, and accepting constructive criticism.
